The first basic step is process description. The main thing is to choose a proper degree of formalization so that, on the one hand, the employees have comprehensible guidance on how to perform their tasks and the way the results (and their quality) will be evaluated. On the other hand, employees should not be deprived of flexibility and ability to take initiative and use common sense.

The result of process or group of process formalization will be a schedule (with necessary schemes), instructions, metrics, quality assurance measures and process performance guidelines.
